SAVE A STAR Drug Awareness Foundation, in partnership with the DEA Educational Foundation to reach millions of youth and families throughout the country on the dangers and harms associated with improper prescription drug use.

The mobile exhibit, “Good Medicine, Bad Behavior: Drug Diversion in America” & “It Could Happen To You” will explore the history of prescription drug abuse and diversion in the United States and efforts to combat the problem through time.  It will also include depictions of significant cases and displays illustrating the impact of these substances on the human body.  The rise of rogue internet pharmacies in the past ten years is highlighted as well as the science of how medicine can have therapeutic effects on the body when taken properly, but detrimental effects when misused.  The exhibit will also include Daniel Lee Katz’s story and information about the SAVE A STAR Drug Awareness Foundation and its vital and very timely mission.  Daniel died of a prescription drug overdose on June 15, 2007, at the young age of 25.

Most Americans are not aware of the scope of the prescription drug problem in America today - that nearly one in five high school seniors admit to abusing powerful prescription painkillers, or that opioid painkillers now cause more drug overdose deaths than cocaine and heroin combined.  Prescription drug abuse is not a new problem, but is a rapidly growing one – nearly seven million Americans are abusing prescription drugs; eighty percent more than just six years ago.

Director of Development for the DEA Educational Foundation, William K. Beach, will work closely with the SAVE A STAR Drug Awareness Foundation to raise the necessary funds that will be required for the construction and operation of what will be a first class traveling exhibit and education/resource center.  This will enable the partnership to bring a direct message and face to face interaction to the general public on the fastest growing drug problem in America today.  The exhibit will leave the public with a meaningful experience, and reinforcing it with the very compelling story of Daniel Lee Katz, and the loss of both promise and potential never realized.

SAVE A STAR Drug Awareness Foundation and the DEA Educational Foundation are now actively accepting donations to make the exhibit possible.  If you would like more information on SAVE A STAR Drug Awareness Foundation or would like to contribute, please go to www.SAVEASTAR.org.  The SAVE A STAR Drug Awareness Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3), public charity.  Your charitable donation to SAVE A STAR Drug Awareness Foundation is tax deductible to the extent permitted by law.
